2011 Tennessee Regional - Oak Ridge, TN:
If you love heat and humidity, this was the weekend to be shooting; and the Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association Tennessee NRA regional was the place to be. Six members of the NSSC XTC team traveled to TN for the three day match. Folks stocked up on food, Gatorade, and water...and more water... Temperatures hovered in the mid 90's with high humidity. The new wicking team shirts and hats were lifesavers this weekend.
Friday had 14 teams in competition. North State was represented by John Friguglietti, Patrick McCraw, Doug Armstrong and Keith Hoverstad. Alternate shooters Larry Strayhorn and Paul Hoecke elected to shoot in a pick up team. The North State team placed 6th with a score of 1924-44x topping five other service member teams.
Saturday's 800 AGG drew 81 competitors shooting in hot and humid mainly clear sky conditions. The AMU had a bolt rifle shooting clinic with Brandon Green winning the entire match. Keith Hoverstad fired 769-28 to win first place in the master combined SR and MR class. Following the match was a great barbecue with beef, chicken and all the fixin's.
Sunday the most humid day yet; clothes were soaked by 11am. Big day for NSSC Shooters:
Patrick McCraw won the EIC gold medal by shooting an excellent 487-15.
John Friguglietti won the HM MR class with a score of 495-23 in the Rifleman match (run concurrent with the EIC). John placed fourth overall among some very strong AMU MR shooters.
Doug Armstrong was the high civilian SR competitor with a 487-16.
Paul Hoecke finished among the Master class shooters with a 468-10x.
After the Sunday match; Big Ed’s Pizza for the traditional after-match pizza and refreshments.
For those who aren't aware, Oak Ridge replaced their original club building with a beautiful sportsman's lodge. An outstanding facility(photo) Don't pass up this match next year. Carpooling and less expensive motel rooms 20 minutes away in Knoxville make this event very affordable. ORSA matches are extremely well organized by Charlie Smart and his crew at ORSA.
Next Team Event: June 25 - 26 NCRPA NC State Service Rifle Championship
Sunday is the 2-man team Director's match, a 500 NMC no sighter match. Let's see if we can get the entire team to turn out for this home range event!

2011 Remember the Brave Match - Quantico Va.:
Memorial Day Weekend, the HP team had six team shooters going to Quantico this past weekend. Saturday 800 RMC, and Sunday 4-man team 500 NMC no-sighter match.
Team finished sixth out of 14 teams. Weather was overcast, warm and humid with a south wind that offered challenges in following the fishtailing mirage. The team practiced pair firing which worked well and refined their on-line shooter support to more efficiently move people and gear to and from the line.
This match had multiple trophies and plaques for competitors. A very good turnout by Marine, Navy and National Guard competitors. It’s definitely worth scheduling for next year.
Nate Guernsey earned first place in the match rifle class.

North State Shooting Club fielded three teams in the Creedmoor Cup XTC team match held at Camp Butner Friday May 13. 22 teams fired that day; Conditions were heavy overcast and high humidity with rain threatening all day. Course of fire - 500 NMC with sighters; 10 shots each at standing 200yds, sitting rapid 200yds, prone rapid 300 yds, and 20 shots prone 600 yds.
NSSC Red - Match Rifle team; John Friguglietti, Rick Barnett, Doug Morrison and Nate Guernsey. They fired a 1944-64x coming in a close second to the newly formed Army Marksmanship Unit firing new match rifles. Personal best for John Friguglietti firing a 496-24x - until he fired in the MR-EIC 497-23x.
NSSC White - Service Rifle team; Doug Armstrong, Marc Pilato, Tim Moore, and Keith Hoverstad. They placed 8th among the 19 Service Rifle teams. Special recognition to Doug Armstrong who shot a personal best 198-11x at 600 yards. Only two SR competitors shot a better 600 yard score, both being members of the military teams.
NSSC Blue - Service Rifle team; Ira Jones, Larry Strayhorn, Greg Scott and Paul Hoecke. The Blue team placed 13th among the 19 SR teams. Great day for Paul Hoecke firing a personal best aggregate score of 478-8x
